Who said DIY can't be pretty?

Not Maison Martin Margiela.. during his show in the Artisanal Fall 2009 Collection. Yes, recession is still here but hopefully its getting better, we need not to speak too soon.
The message of this show was DIY. You can do anything yourself, and it CAN be pretty, not overly messy or chaotic, unless beautifully chaotic of course! Inspiration? Anything! Materials? your local hardware store, or any other place that you can find materials and morph them into something uniquely creative made by you.

Visual Poetry

I was just in awe when I saw these!! Words are merely not just words..they speak, dance, play, move us in so many different directions. They are alive..and tell us such amazing stories as these sculptures do by designer Ebon Heath. His visual sculptures just makes us stop and admire how words could be so powerful in our world today..at the same time looking at them feels like time has stood still for a mere moment or two. Creative no? Imagine if he did it all in arabic?! Ahh..B E A U T I F U L !

When they say "More is More"

Beautiful Chaos takes inspiration from Ricky Kenig's Residence in Brooklyn, New York by Slade Architecture.

"More is more" but its not clutter in this case. Well designed and organized, a lot of pictures on the wall, or an organized collection of rare shoes, or stacked coffee table books, or... you know where I'm going with this don't you? This is pulled off brilliantly, and I have to say, it speaks out about the personality of the homeowner. So when putting on display a unique collection that belongs to you, it can tell us a lot about your personality. Do so..bring them out rather than having it collect dust, or tucked deep away in the closet. If you're afraid to put it out there, then have it secured.

Let people know who you are! But please, no clutter! you want to display it like its in an art gallery, not make a mess out of it.

Pushing Design: New Art, its Kanye's cover

He does it again! I just love how Kanye West is so creative and artsy I had to post his latest project here. Pushing the boundaries of art and design, Kanye is inspiring the use of advanced technology on the new cover of Complex magazine with the help of videographer and photographer Chris Milk. A project that's about the futuristic creation of the Complex April/May cover photo shoot using CGI (Computer-generated Imagery), by creating a photograph from a facial scan that gathers data from a camera that revolves around an object. A computer then brings the images together to create an eerie detailed 2D photograph. Cool!!!

Chaos @ Saks?

On my shopping outing today, I entered Saks Fifth Avenue and saw artwork snippets from Shepard Fairey's Studio Number One for Saks' Spring 2009 WANT IT! Campaign. Mainly it was on tables, as I was distracted with other stuff displayed here and there ;) I thought to myself, what could this campaign be all about? The stuff that were displayed as WANT IT's were trends to follow, the latest, the best, etc. Personally they weren't that wanted, not to object to anyone, its just from my personal point of view.
The main question is .. is the campaign seen as artfully choatic or distraction chaotic or beautifully chaotic? To me, its a balance of artfully chaotic yet distraction chaotic.

You be the judge.

Do magazines still inspire us in creativity?

The freedom of expressing ourselves has long evolved nowadays with much more creativity than we've seen before. For example, we have the freedom of writing and posting via blogging, wordpress, etc. or we have the freedom of expressing ourselves through art, for example in advertising, visual arts, editorial designs, etc. Just take a look at how and where we get inspiration from. Most of all, we get it from magazines. We do turn ourselves to our computers searching for the latest and the best in art via googling or bloggers who are up-to-date in many aspects of life, be it in topics of fashion, design, cars, or what ever your interests may be. Yet somehow we still turn ourselves into magazines..whether buying it for the sake of reading it or for admiring the hardwork put into making it highly creative, by the forms of excellent writing, great photography, art work, advertising..thus keeping us coming back for more!

As I was browsing online for a new coffee table book, I fell upon "We Make Magazines..Inside the Independants" by Gestalthen Publishers. The book explores the dynamic magazine culture and celebrates their visual energy and brilliant ideas that they've come up with, and how they've evolved during the years to keep things interesting and artistic. The layouts, the spreads, the photography, the paper used, its different than what we "see" via the internet. Its a different feeling. It still interests us to buy magazines because somehow the internet alone doesn't satisfy us in terms of just getting inspirations for many things. The magazines, art books, real-life situations, advertistments, and many more can inspire us to do many things (generally in art).

The book is edited by passionate international magazine connoisseurs. It features exclusive in-depth interviews with editors and founders, and illustrates diverse topics that are essential in publishing magazines. Showcasing more than 100 independent magazines with stunning spreads, images, layouts, and websites, from over 30 different countries. It has a directory of over 700 of the most cutting-edge independent magazines available!! This book is for anyone who has a passion for print in the media, or who just want a beatiful book for the coffee table.
