Pushing Design: New Art, its Kanye's cover

He does it again! I just love how Kanye West is so creative and artsy I had to post his latest project here. Pushing the boundaries of art and design, Kanye is inspiring the use of advanced technology on the new cover of Complex magazine with the help of videographer and photographer Chris Milk. A project that's about the futuristic creation of the Complex April/May cover photo shoot using CGI (Computer-generated Imagery), by creating a photograph from a facial scan that gathers data from a camera that revolves around an object. A computer then brings the images together to create an eerie detailed 2D photograph. Cool!!!

Ping-Pong Dining Table

Ping-Pong Dining Table for Mein Gallery.

What looks like your dining table is also a ping-pong table. It is an official-sized game table with DuPont Corian surface CNC machine-routed, with an elegant style of French Rococo patterns and gold-lacquered Ping-Pong Iconography, supported on hand-lathed timber legs.
Designed by young Singaporean Designer (and a Ping-Pong enthusiast himself) Hunn Wai, for Mein Gallery. Looking back at the origins of the birth of table-tennis, the duality of the table being suitable for both dining on and playing on. What was an indoor entertainment game for upper-class Victorians to play after-dinner, it is now an international game played world-wide. To top off the elegance, the table long vase filled with blossoms makes a beautiful center-piece and also serves as a beautiful "net" for the game. Wai also did a similar project previously, a Paul Smith Ping-Pong Table.

Dark Bright and Colorful

I didn't pay much attention to this at first, but when I read about it..I thought brilliant! What a brilliant innovative idea turned into reality!
This is the newly opened showroom and office of Kvadrat, a Danish textile manufacturer, designed by architect David Adjaye and graphic designer Peter Saville, located in East London.
What was a former Victorian factory, the combination of the old and the newly modern is brought together in this project. Heading downstairs towards the basement by a wooden staircase, half-enclosed by colorful glass slabs, you are taken to a muted dark space in what looks like built-in cabinetry to the walls in the colors of blacks and greys, in clean archictectural lines. Behind those dark cabinetry, lies the collections of Kvadrat's textiles, that dissapear into the wall when not in use.

Unlike many textile showrooms, the idea of having a built-in cabinetry to house a vast collection of textiles, makes the space appealing for other uses, such as socializing. In fact, graphic designer Peter Saville, is already planning on hosting film screenings and exhibitons in the near future. A dark basement is contrasted with a bright and naturally lit ground floor, which is the office space. Dark and bright are brought together with colorful glass slabs in between.

Umbrellas for the Civil but Discontent Man

Designed by Bruce and Stephanie Tharp of Materious.

"Sigmund Freud contends that aggressiveness is a fundamental human instinct whose inhibition is a necessary obligation of social life. These umbrellas combine a symbol of gentlemanly refinement--the full-sized, black umbrella--with an element from more manly sword-bearing times. The umbrellas offer brief psychological respite from the dictates of social amiability."

Its Mary!

From her Spring/Summer 09 Collection:

From her Fall 09 Collection:

Pay attention: Greek born print and fashion designer Mary Katrantzou and recent graduate from Central Saint Martins, had made her entrance with her bold graphic prints of oversized jewellery on bonded jersey dresses. Inspired by constructivism and early 70s references, her peices create illusions of wearing jewellery peices that are too heavy to wear. With all that hype of wearing big jewellery for Spring/ Summer, she made it as prints on her dresses. Although she has also combined some real jewellery on some of her pop inspired and ruffled prints. Big jewellery are an essential part of the Spring/ Summer Women's wardrobe. Colour blocking, graphic edging, and eye-popping designs..these are wonderful for the summer. A little preview of her Fall collection, inspired from perfume bottles.

For the Dysfunctional

Silent Farter - a stool that amplifies the sound of farts. Although the sound may be muted, the scent is still there!
Constant Shaker - Made for those who fidget and shake their legs while sitting down, it can count the calories burned by doing just that!

Equality Seeker - Designed to make everyone at the table equal, the taller you are, the shorter the chair, and the shorter you are, the taller the chair.

These are some of the chairs from Chairs for the Dysfunctional Project by Alice Wang.. Interesting fun furniture that keeps you on your toes!

Masculine and Green

One of the color trends for Spring/Summer 2009 has shown itself in interiors, and that is the color GREEN. The color gives off a calm earthy feel to the room. Here, I've selected a few interiors who are up with the color trend, yet also have a masculine edge to them. The masculine style of dark woods, dark leathers, and neutral tones are softened and uplifted with GREEN. It can be put as touches to the interior using home accessories such as vases, glassware, or pillows. It can be used a bit more strongly such as being the color of the sofa, or chairs in the dining room. It can be used even more strongly such as the color of the wall. Just don't overdo the color, and the application in the interior. You just want to accent the place not overwhelm it. The various colors of green have different meanings, whether you want to go more foresty with a forest green color, or subtle with an olive green or vert green, or even eye-popping with a neon green!

The point is: Accent don't Overwhelm!
